Worse yet, you’ll run into friends when you’d rather be alone. Well, Nat has ten suggestions for great hotels to spend an entire weekend alone with your special someone where you can be sure you won’t be disturbed.

Amanpuri

Amanpuri
The first of the world-famous Aman resorts, this is still my favourite. The villas are spaced a good distance from each other and the atmosphere sets the standard for Asian boutique resorts. It’s so good that some friends of mine who’d been trying to have a baby finally conceived at Amanpuri.

   Amanpuri Resort
   Pansea Beach
   Phuket 83000

Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa

Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa
A short drive away from Bangkok’s CBD, the Anantara has a huge pool and great restaurants. You would never know you’re minutes away from the city — and all the people you’re trying to get away from.

   257/1-3 Charoennakorn Road
   Thonburi, Bangkok 10600

Bulgari Bali

Bulgari Bali
This is the best resort for a romantic getaway in Bali. All the way out in Uluwatu, you really feel like you’re at the end of the world. Laid out like a small Mediterranean village, the property features villas with high walls and great views.

Four Seasons Chiang Mai

Four Seasons Chiang Mai
This is what James Hilton must have envisioned when he wrote Lost Horizon. A veritable tropical paradise nestled in the hills of the Mae Rim district of Chiang Mai, this is an ideal place to spend a weekend without any danger of being disturbed. One of the most romantic things to do here is to sit in the outdoor Jacuzzi in the rain.

   Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai
   Samoeng Old Road
   Mae Rim
   Chiang Mai 50180

Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi

Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi
The villas here are in an entirely separate section from the rest of the hotel and the restaurants are excellent. The best Chinese food I’ve had in Thailand was here as well. The grounds are large enough that you can take a long walk without having to worry about too many people invading your personal space.

   51/4 Chiang Mai-Sankampaeng Road
   Moo 1 T. Tasala A. Muang
   Chiang Mai 50000

Rayavadee Krabi

Rayavadee Krabi
Even before Krabi became the destination of choice for travellers in the know, Rayavadee was the secluded resort everyone wanted to visit. A few years on, it has retained its status as the luxury getaway for anyone desiring a secluded holiday.

You want exclusive? This is one of Thailand’s most private resorts on the mostly undiscovered island of Koh Kood. Celebrities are flown in directly from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport the shuttled to the resort by private speedboat. With the masses still going to other more famous destinations, you are almost guaranteed privacy.

Song Saa Private Island

Song Saa Private Island
Angkor is spectacular, but if you want to avoid the crowds, this is the place to go in Cambodia. Just a 30-minute boat ride from Sihanoukville, this luxurious, environmentally friendly resort is secluded enough to satisfy the most privacy-seeking of couples.
