In the first of a series on our team’s favourite shops, Photographic Director Luecha Kajornnetikul tells us where he prefers to buy jewellery. Thailand is a world-renowned centre for jewellery, gems and design. Cha likes Warutti, for all those reasons but he also keeps going back for the value.
I like jewellery, especially diamonds. I know that most men usually don’t care about jewellery nowadays but, in ancient times, during the Sukhothai era, Thai men wore jewellery as much as women did. A good jeweller should be able to design pieces for both men and women.
I have been going to Warutti since long before they opened a shop in the chic shopping district of Rajaprasong. The reason I like Warutti is that the pieces are inspired by ancient designs but are also contemporary. They use a lot of semi-precious stones and baroque pearls that make the jewellery colourful. Not only do they work with gold but they also work with silver.
I began buying from Warutti when I couldn’t afford anything expensive and found that the workmanship was very good for the price. I would take loose stones to the owner Khun Num and he would design pieces for me. I found that, on the whole, the price for the workmanship was about half of what I would have to pay somewhere else.
