French Tuesdays' ‘American Dream’ Party at The Manhattan Bar

We love busting out the stylish cocktail dresses and evening wear for French Tuesdays' monthly parties. It's one of the few occasions that gives us the opportunity to feel extra glamorous. Plus, who can complain about seeing the men in their black ties and suits? The latest ‘American Dream’ party, held at JW Marriot Bangkok's Manhattan Bar, had a slow start, but after the free Belvedere shots were handed out by a mermaid (or a merman who stole Ariel's red wig), people started to loosen up and hit the dance floor.

We were entertained by wonderful, wide-ranging performances from local drag queen stars to a Michael Jackson impersonator, and even a lost Snow White who was constantly looking for her seven dwarves. The acts certainly fit the Americana theme of the night, and so did the music. At one point we heard Madonna's ‘Music’ track which, of course, made us think of the queen of pop donning the music video’s famed cowboy hat — the quintessential Americana accessory.

There was, however, a ‘real’ cowboy present at the party — a half-naked stud playing a fake guitar in his underwear! It was our very own version of the The Naked Cowboy. Yee-haw! Other celebrities making an appearance, of sorts, were Hugh Hefner and his Playboy bunnies, a perfectly concocted Cher look-alike, Lady Gaga and Marilyn Monroe.

But the celeb look-a-likes were not the highlight of the evening. That distinction went to the amazing finger food prepared by JW Marriot Bangkok's New York Steakhouse. Who could ask for more? Not us, not when there’s foie gras with steak and crab pancakes, which we couldn’t get enough of. However, more we did indeed receive, for at the end of the night we were surprised with gift vouchers for a full dining experience at the restaurant!
