Fill in the blank: _ _ n & Jerry’s ice cream. Nope. It’s Ian and Jerry and they’re making Bangkok even cooler.
Nestled within Chulalongkorn University’s U-Center — sprawling with restaurants, coffee shops and all sorts of goodies — is the newest student (and visitor) hangout: Creamery Boutique Ice Cream.
Founders Ian Lee and Jerry Chompunuch Jomsangawong, along with family and friends, celebrated with a full day of ice cream giveaways and free tastings. But we didn’t just come for the ice cream. We also came to find out the story behind it all. How did Creamery come about? According to the Bangkok’s new Ben & Jerry’s, it’s all because two people fell in love….
Ian and Jerry went to school together at Les Roches International School of Hotel Management in Switzerland, although they didn’t start dating until back in Bangkok. Both were working with top restaurants in the luxury hospitality industry as a manager and pastry chef respectively.
Apart from the shop’s loving atmosphere, we took immediate note of the many interesting flavours available. Jerry is responsible for making all the ice cream herself! We tried a mini spoonful of everything on opening day. It was difficult to decide which flavours we wanted more of. However, it was a no-brainer; we ended up having more of the Brit Pop Bacon & Eggs, savoury bacon caramelized in brown sugar and gently folded into fluffy egg custard ice cream (it sounds odd, but it’s a truly great ice cream flavour!). Not only did it satisfy our innate desire as food enthusiasts to try the absurd, but it was incredibly fulfilling, like eating an actual meal. We joked that having a scoop of the Ca.Le.Ho.Yo ice cream would nullify the bacon guilt since the combination of cardamom, lemon, honey and yoghurt creates a natural diuretic.
‘I will tell all my fat friends to come here for the Brit Pop Bacon & Eggs. Have this with the Ca.Le.Ho.Yo and it will help you lose it all!’ said customer Antoine Perie aka Manoon.
