A public participation project combined artistic creativity with simple ideas to remind us how we can all make a difference in our community.
Caught up in the whirlwind of everyday life, we tend to forget the little ways we can make positive change in the world. Small gestures of kindness and mindful actions can go a long way when everyone participates. Organisers at MYSOCIALMOTION took this to heart, and the result is the IDEACUBES Exhibition Finale of 100 ideas, on display at Crystal Design Center (CDC) after making appearances all over the city at Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery, Paradise Park, Central World, Park Ventures and other popular areas.
One hundred ideas on how to better the community were selected from a bounty of suggestions made by public figures, celebrities and the general public. Another one hundred volunteer artists then produced engaging 1m x 1m x 1m cubes that communicated ways to benefit our community, society and environment.
One idea we loved was Sopolnawitch Achira Ponglamjiak’s and Siripa Intavichein’s ‘Eat ice-cream from a cone, not a cup’ cube, which was depicted as a huge mountain of pastel-coloured scoops of ice-cream dripping down a large cube. We always think of our personal preference when it comes to ordering ice-cream in a cup or cone, but this idea is asking us to simply think of the environment and choose the option that produces the least amount of waste. Plus, licking ice-cream from a cone is so much more fun. Don’t forget you'll also be saving a plastic spoon!
So if you’re looking for some inspiration or just some great ideas on how to make the world a better place, then head over to CDC. It may be a trek from some parts of the city, but it’s well worth it! Remember to carpool with friends and family to reduce carbon footprints when you make the trip. The exhibition runs to 30 June 2012.
