Tle goes green in Chiang Mai.
Salad Concept, on Nihmmanhemin Road in Chiang Mai, was an immediate hit when it opened a few years ago. Since then, this salad-only restaurant has been packed with health-conscious diners every day of the week. But meat lovers need not fear. The menu includes abundant meat choices to add to your greens and vegetables.
Salad Concept aims to cleanse body and soul with all-natural dishes, including desserts. Salads come in huge portions. The black pepper beef salad, very delicious, is served with Japanese black soy sauce dressing. On my second visit I customised my own salad, choosing fresh salmon, sliced almonds and fried tofu cubes (which substituted as my second meat choice). The tofu salad dressing I chose was thick, creamy and sweet, although it did obscure the tofu’s flavour.
I also can recommend Salad Mueang, which combines northern-style foods like deep-fried pig skin (cap moo), northern sausage (sai ouar) and boiled local vegetables like pumpkin and long beans. The dressing for Salad Mueang is, not so shockingly, nam prik noom, a dressing common with many Thai dishes. It still has the thick, creamy salad dressing texture but with the fragrance and spice of nam prik noom.
There is also a healthy drink menu. Choose one of the ‘treatment’ drinks from their detox menu, which start at 60 baht per glass.
Salad Concept is located at Nimmanhemin Road, Soi 13, Chiang Mai 50200
Opening hours: 11am to 10pm daily; closed every second Wednesday of the month.
