Tup Noi
Thai favourites and a welcoming feel at this Chiang Mai restaurant.
In business for more than 30 years, Tup Noi, or Little Puppy, is one of the most-visited restaurants in Chiang Mai. It’s a huge place but still manages to give off a homely atmosphere. Indeed diners are greeted by the restaurant’s resident celebrity, Boss Tup, who also will be happy to provide his expert menu recommendations.
It’s a menu of approximately 50 dishes. My favourite was rice noodles served with tender stewed chicken drumsticks; flavourful, tender meat slid off the bone with just a nudge of the chopstick. Tom yum noodles here are also very delicious and the egg noodle is thick and springy. Fried macaroni with egg is another signature dish. Don’t forget to order the chrysanthemum drink; it has a strong fragrance and unlike many similarly flavoured drinks, the sweetness was not overwhelming.
